Delaware North, the parent company of Wheeling Island Hotel–Casino–Racetrack has decided to re-launch the facility’s sports betting operation, which was closed for a year due to a conflict of interest with a gambling contractor. The start of sports betting again in West Virginia is through the new Betly website and mobile app, which will cover the retail sportsbooks of Mardi Gras Casino & Resort near Charleston and the Wheeler Island Hotel–Casino–Racetrack.
The Wheeling Island casino first started sports betting in December 2018, but it only lasted for about a year. Certain issues and conflicts with the Bet Lucky mobile app vendor Miomni Gaming and a third-party provider led to the gambling establishment’s closure last March. The contract with Miomni was terminated, and Delaware North took the company to court in April.
The dispute has now been cleared, and the soft launch of the Betly website and the sportsbook of the Mardi Gras is through. The Betly app launch is due next week, and the opening of the Wheeling Island sportsbook is scheduled for September 2. For all the services, only a limited opening will be featured for now.
Firstly, both the Betly website and mobile app have a user-friendly registration process. While for iPhone users, the app has to be downloaded from the Apple Store, Android devices users can visit www.betly.com for the Mardi Gras and www.wheeling.betly.com for the Wheeling Island version.
In the casinos, gamblers have several options. They can either place their bets at the sportsbook teller windows, on the Betly site or mobile app, or at any Betly kiosks in the premises. The sportsbook kiosks were not operating after the casinos downed shutters in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Even now, after casinos were permitted to open from June 5, they are run under the Delaware North’s Play IT Safe program of health and safety.
The Betly mobile app, retail sportsbooks, and the website are driven by International Gaming Technology, a gaming company catering to clients worldwide. Delaware North entered into a multistate sports betting contract with them in January.
In a statement, a spokesperson of the company said,
The Betly website can be used to place bets from any corner of West Virginia.
